Your heart, blood and blood vessels make up the cardiovascular system. By pumping oxygen-rich blood to every organ in the body, and removing waste products such as carbon dioxide, the heart and circulatory system keep us alive!
What can you do for a healthy heart?
An unhealthy lifestyle is a key contributor to heart problems, so you can start by making small adjustments to your unhealthy ways – today! If you smoke, ask your doctor or pharmacist for help to quit, try to incorporate at least 30 minutes of physical activity into your daily life, try to avoid a diet high in saturated fats (found in animal products like butter, full-fat milk and meats) and instead opt for polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats, such as canola oil or olive oil. If you’re carrying extra weight, ask your doctor for help and advice to cut down.
Some nutritional supplements can also support heart and circulatory health, including:
- Vitamin E.
- Co Enzyme Q10 (CoQ10).
- Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil.
